Behind the Scenes Hero -- Tim Golba
This edition's Behind the Scenes Hero is Tim Golba. Though some might consider Tim Golba a more "in front of the scenes" figure due to his prominence in conservative activism, most of Tim's activity actually does occur behind the scenes -- building the grassroots, engaging the culture, and planning strategy for tackling the issues he cares about -- from life to judges.

Tim, whose day jobs involve working for Coca-Cola as well as in real estate, has been involved in the political scene since 1984. His original motivation for getting involved was the abortion issue and Ronald Reagan. Since that time, he has been a grassroots activist on the local, county and state level and his impact has been felt in many ways, including the conservative surge in Topeka in the early to mid 90's. Since that time, the conservative movement in Kansas has had ups and downs, but Tim feels that progress has been made in the areas of abortion and marriage. However, he does have concerns with the movement, mainly concerning the "fight" in those who identify themselves as conservatives.

"Many people who think they are conservatives aren't willing to fight the good fight for the conservative agenda. If this continues, we will lose ground on our issues," Golba said.

Despite 23 years of involvement, Tim Golba continues his fight this year. He continues his behind the scenes work on behalf of Phill Kline and also is leading the effort to change the method of judicial selection of district judges in Johnson County from the current nominating-commission system to direct elections. In 2006, his organization, Kansas Judicial Review of Johnson County, obtained well over the necessary amount of signatures -- over 8,000 -- in order to place this issue on the November 2008 ballot.
